“A book is proof that humans are
capable of working magic.”
“Good books don’t give up all
their secrets at once.”
“A book must be the axe for
the frozen sea inside us.”
“But surpassing all stupendous inventions, what sublimity of mind was his who dreamed of finding means to communicate his deepest thoughts to any other person, though distant by mighty intervals of place and time!
Of talking with those who are in India; of speaking to those who are not yet born and will not be born for a thousand or ten thousand years; and with what facility, by the different arrangements of twenty characters upon a page!
Let this be the seal of all the
admirable inventions of mankind.”
Hello, my name is Monica C. LoCascio, and I'm a book doula.
I was born in the Middle East, and raised on three different continents by my music and computer teaching parents.
I studied New Media and Art History at Emerson College. It was there that I took a magazine design class and found my passion for publishing.
After graduating, I moved to New York and landed concurrent directorial roles at international street art magazine Overspray and PAPER Magazine.
Shortly thereafter, in 2007, I began my independent consulting work. Since then I have been advising and working with new businesses, writers, artists, technologists, and activists to help them set and achieve their branding and publishing goals ever since.
In 2008, I started work on STICKERS: From Punk Rock to Contemporary Art, and got my first taste of conception-through-publication book authorship.
From managing tech-oriented artists and a large-scale art fair, to developing gallery programming, creating funding strategies for public art, and co-founding a lighting technology company, I've had the pleasure of working across many disciplines and media.
But I always came back to books.
During my journeys through other industries, I would always have a big book project or two in the works, and it was in that work that I found myself at my best.
In 2015, I committed to bibliophilia full time.
Several of those titles even ended up being best-sellers.
I support equal rights for all, reproductive freedom, and earth-centered causes. In my free time I am passionate about the intersection of art and science, I enthusiastically explore geometry, perception, and nature, and I read.
